What is sin?
The bible’s definition of sin is “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1John 3:4. Now what law is it referring to? In 1John 2:7 it reads “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.” It mentions the commandments that were spoken in the beginning. The earliest commandments spoken out were the “Ten Commandments” found in Exodus 20:1-17. These Commandments existed long before sin came into the world, because it says in Psalms 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” We also know that the law existed in heaven, since the bible mentions that Satan had sinned from the beginning found in 1John 3:8 which reads “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” We know that if Satan sinned in the beginning, then there was a law in place; otherwise, sin could not have existed without a law; since sin is the transgression of a law. In John 1:14 it reads “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Notice it said that the word was made flesh and dwelt among us here on earth. This verse is speaking of Jesus Christ; and notice it used the same phrase “the word” to describe Him. The Ten commandments are the transcript of His character which is based around LOVE. The Ten Commandments is the law of LOVE that was instituted at creation. “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1John 5:3.
Why did Satan sin against God, and why didn't God get rid of Satan in the beginning?
Before the fall, Lucifer held the highest position in heaven as the covering cherub (Ezekiel 28:14). Overtime Lucifer became more and more prideful due to his beauty and cherished the desire of self exaltation (Ezekiel 28:17). Overtime he felt that he should have been equal with God. “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” Isaiah 14:14. He began to spread lies among the other angels causing division in heaven and felt that God’s supreme law was injustice; since God would not accept his request to be equal with him. He was then cast out of heaven with the third of the angels for breaking the law, and to prevent any further division (Revelation 12:4, 7-9). God could have easily killed Satan and the angels that rebelled against Him, but the existing angles would have been living out fear instead of love which would have been contrary to God’s loving character.
Why did God create us if sin had already taken place?
God wanted something to love, just as we do when we have children; we know the risks of pregnancies and we still take the risk because we want something that we can call our own. “Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” Revelation 4:11. Satan was cast down to the Earth to test humanities loyalty. This is where our first parents failed the test known as Adam and Eve; that ate of the forbidden fruit. However, the test does not stop with them all have to make the decision to serve God or to serve Him not. We can already see what sin does; it separates us from God our life giver, and this is Satan’s plan to get everyone he can to turn their backs on God. As the saying goes “Misery loves company”. There is so much sin that we have in our world today let us list some of them “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like..” Galatians 5:19-21. However; God insists that all should accept him, so that all may be able to have the fruits of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.” Galatians 5:22-23.
How can I overcome sin?
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33. Making Christ your first priority in all things whether it’s money, family/friends, or occupation; God should always be your first choice. We must carry a will power, His Spirit is not forceful, His Spirit can only guide us in the way it cannot force us to do right, because God gives us all a freedom of choice; we have to have a desire to want to do well. When we pray, read our bibles to gain understanding, and spread His word to others on the daily basis, we become more connected, and more intimate with God. The closer we are with God, the less connected we become with this world and its customs in such things like gossiping, illegal sustenance’s, and materialistic items. You will begin to see there is no value in anything of this world, and the world will start to see you as an outcast, because you don’t partake in what they offer. Our peace and our happiness can only come from God; He is the only one that can fill that void that the world so longs to desire, but does not make an effort to seek Him. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14:27.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. God is calling all those who are heartbroken, in pain, experiencing sickness, or overwhelmed with burdens to go to Him; and in return He will give you a peace of mind, and desire to do His will.
